"New Conjugated Materials for Biophysical, Quantum, and Electrochemical Applications"
Abstract: Conjugated oligoelectrolytes (COEs) and conjugated polyelectrolytes (CPEs) have emerged as leading materials in bioanalytical and electrochemical applications due to their unique combination of electronic and ionic properties. These materials feature π-conjugated backbones with ionic functionalities at the ends of their side chains, enhancing their water solubility, processability, and suitability for aqueous environments. In this presentation, we will explore how these physical properties enable the detection of biomolecules using both classical and, as recently discovered by our group, quantum frameworks. Additionally, we will highlight our progress in single biological nanoparticle detection and imaging. Particular emphasis will be placed on leveraging temperature to deepen our understanding of classical and quantum states. Lastly, we will discuss the emergence of self-doped CPEs with wide bandgaps and high porosity, expanding their potential in next-generation bioelectronic applications.
